By the later 1600s. Britain, Spain and France fought each other often to gain more land around the world. They fought in Europe, Asia, North and South America. In North America, the British and the French both claimed the Ohio River Valley. The British wanted to land to grow crops in the good soil while the French wanted to capture beavers to trade their furs. In 1754, the disagreement became war that lasted almost 10 years. Many British soldiers fought with other colonists against the French. Most of the Native Americans fought with the French, though some fought with the British. In the beginning, The British lost a lot of battles. But, things changed in
1759 when the British troops took Quebec in Canada. By 1760, France had lost Canada and asked for peace. In 1763 the peace treaty gave
the British Canada and land between the Mississippi River and the
Appalachian Mountains. The British gained much more land, but were left
in debts worth 30 billion dollars today.
